Lunch

"Lunch atop a Skyscraper (New York Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam) is a famous photograph taken by Charles C. Ebbets during construction of the GE Building at Rockefeller Center in 1932.

The photograph depicts 11 men eating lunch, seated on a girder with their feet dangling hundreds of feet above the New York City streets. Ebbets took the photo on September 29, 1932, and it appeared in the New York Herald Tribune in its Sunday photo supplement on October 2. Taken on the 69th floor of the GE Building during the last several months of construction, the photo Resting on a Girder shows the same workers napping on the beam." - Worldsfamousphotos

HOLES by LOUIS SACHER

An amazing read. I highly recommend this crossover book to all ages! Louis Sachar's incredible imagination and ability to weave in and out of intricate details is just more than stunning. The inconceivable twists of events compel you to devour them all from cover to cover in one sitting.
Here are some of my most favourite quotes from the book. The book is in Amazon.
1. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake.
2. Stanley Yelnats was given a choice. The judge said, "You may go to jail, or you may go to Camp Green Lake."
Stanley was from a poor family. He had never been to camp before.
3. “If only, if only,” the woodpecker sighs,
“The bark on the tree was just a little bit softer.”
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely,
He cries to the moo-oo-oon, “If only, if only.”
4. "Myra's head is as empty as a flowerpot."
"But she is beautiful."
"So is a flowerpot..."
5. Alas, poor Elya should have carried his pig up the mountain one last time. The two pigs weighed exactly the same.
6. "Elya? said Myra. "What number do you guess?"
Elya didn't pick a number. "Marry Ignor," he muttered. "You can keep my pig as a wedding present."
7. A sign on the door said WRECK ROOM.
Nearly everything in the room was broken; the TV, the pinball machine, the furniture. Even the people looked broken, with their worn out bodies sprawled over the various chairs and sofas.
8. Dear Mom,
Today was my first day at camp, and I've already made some friends. We've been on the lake all day, so I'm pretty tired. Once I pass the swimming test, I'll get to learn how to water-ski, I
9. He didn't feel like going into the details. If he didn't talk about it, then maybe it didn't happen.
10. He pointed his finger at her and said, "No one ever says "No" to Charles Walker!"
"I believe I just did," said Katherine Barlow.
11. “He’s not going to die,” the Warden said, “Unfortunately for you.”
12. Stanley stared at the dark spot on the ground, which quickly shrank before his eyes.
"Thank you, Mr Sir," he said.
13. "Oh Sam," she said. "My heart is breaking."
"I can fix that," said Sam.
14. “If I had just kept those old smelly sneakers, then neither of us would be here right now.”
15. "You know I'm not thirsty," Stanley said, as he unscrewed the lid. "I'm just drinking so you will."
"I'm just drinking so you will," said Zero.
They clinked the jars together and, each watching the other, poured the water into their stubborn mouths.
16. "Just so long as I have the suitcase, I don't care what happens. Do you know how long..."When I was little I'd watch my parents dig holes, every weekend and holiday. When I got bigger, I had to dig, too. Even on Christmas."
17. Stanley could hear his heart beat. Each beat told him he was still alive, at least for one more second.
18. “If only, if only, the moon speaks no reply;
Reflecting the sun and all that’s gone by.
Be strong my weary wolf, turn around boldly.
Fly high my baby bird, My angel, my only.”

The Street of Crocodiles finally arrived at my doorstep after ordering it through Amazon weeks ago.
